Greendale is a village in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 14,854 at the 2020 census. Greendale is located southwest of Milwaukee and is a part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. A planned community, it was established by the US government during the Great Depression.

This prestigious recognition celebrates our production, Our Town: Greendale, Wisconsin, which brings the rich history of our village to life in an unforgettable way.

The Greendale Historical Society was founded in 1975 to collect, preserve, and share materials that highlight Greendale’s unique history. Our mission is to protect and promote the buildings, landmarks, and artifacts that tell the story of Greendale, Wisconsin.

The government purchased 3,400 acres of scenic farmland southwest of Milwaukee and built Greendale on the “garden city” model, in which housing was situated within easy walking access of gardens, employment, and a town center.
