European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said she expected the bloc to renew its sanctions on Russia on Monday after Hungary signalled it would stop holding up the move in return for assurances about energy security.

The deal is expected to be reached by EU ambassadors during a morning emergency Coreper and then formalized at a gathering of foreign ministers in Brussels. Hungary’s threats prompted warnings from European leaders and high-level officials in Brussels.
