Rural hospitals in Arkansas will have to ready themselves for some major changes coming in the next few years that could mean savings for the federal government, but fewer people with health care coverage.

State officials warn 360,000 elderly, disabled and working poor residents will lose $3.6 billion in Medicaid coverage as cuts take effect.

One health policy professor said cutting Medicaid and similar programs "will be devastating" to millions of Americans.
