Tuesday's report, too rapid for peer-review yet, found global warming boosted the likelihood of high fire weather conditions in this month's fires by 35 percent and its intensity by 6 percent.

A new prescribed burn, named Merced Piles, was initiated today at 11:25 a.m. in Merced County. The prescribed fire has been burning on federal land managed by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. At present, information regarding the extent of land burned and the size of the crew conducting the prescribed fire is unavailable.

In an update by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection on Tuesday at 6:49 p.m. PT, the Clay Fire is burning near Pedley Road and Van Buren Boulevard, in Jurupa Valley.
