Volkswagen is about to reveal its electric car for the masses. The German brand will debut its new ID.1 concept next month, which is its circa-$30,000 electric hatchback. The ID.1 will be a modern interpretation of the Up tiny city car that was sold in Australia for a few years last decade.

To clarify, this electric model is separate from the ID.2, which is still scheduled to hot production either towards the very end of 2025 or early 2026; that model will be based off the ID.2all concept car. Volkswagen says it plans on launching nine new car models between now and 2027, including this entry-level EV and the ID.2.

Volkswagen has shared the first official teaser of its upcoming entry-level EV for Europe, dubbed ID.One. The model will be launched in 2027 with a starting price of €20,000 ($20,800), serving as a successor to the discontinued VW Up!.

Volkswagen has teased a look at its upcoming compact electric vehicle due to be fully unveiled at the beginning of March. Ahead of a production-ready model premiering in 2027, this early look showcases a compact car that will sit at the smaller end of the current Volkswagen range.

It's been nearly two years since Volkswagen unveiled the ID.2all concept as a window into the future of its €25,000 ($26,000) electric car. That future still isn't here, considering a production model won't hit the market until sometime next year.
