Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown was ordered held in custody after appearing Friday in a British courtroom to face a charge that he seriously beat a music producer in a London nightclub in 2023.

Per The Independent, Abraham Diaw accused Brown of smashing him with a bottle over the head, then proceeding to kick him at the Tape nightclub. Diaw also filed a civil complaint against Chris Brown for $16 million, while seeking damages for injuries and losses as a result of the alleged altercation.

Chris Brown appeared in court in Manchester, England on Friday, May 16, a day after police confirmed he'd been charged with grievous bodily harm following an alleged assault in 2023.
