An epic aerial assault was underway Saturday as a fleet of aircraft worked to prevent the Palisades fire from hitting homes in Brentwood and Encino. A shift in winds late Friday sent the fire north and east through the Santa Monica Mountains,

Ground and aerial firefighters scrambled to save homes in Brentwood from the encroaching Palisades Fire. As of Saturday afternoon, the Palisades Fire was mapped at 22,661 acres and was 11% contained.

The massive Palisades fire has destroyed an estimated 75% of the Pacific Palisades and officials say the 1/3rd of the eastern edge of Malibu has also been destroyed. The fire is now threatening the nearby communities of Brentwood and Encino.

The Encino Reservoir is more than 104 years old and for decades supplied water to communities in the San Fernando Valley, But this week, it may well help entire communities in the path of the fire.
