Quarterback Matthew Sluka, who created a national conversation about the ramifications of name, image and likeness after departing UNLV, has transferred to James Madison. His new school posted a graphic of Sluka draped in a royal purple robe with a crown atop his head to celebrate his transfer to the Dukes.

Matthew Sluka is headed to James Madison after becoming an NIL talking point at UNLV. The quarterback, who started UNLV's first three games last year before sitting out the season over an NIL dispute, signed a letter of intent with JMU on Tuesday, setting him up for a reunion with head coach Bob Chesney.

Sluka, who transferred to UNLV from Holy Cross, announced after UNLV’s 3-0 start in 2024 that he would utilize a redshirt year and sit out the remainder of the season after “representations” made to him “were not upheld.

Matthew Sluka rattled the college football world just three games into the season when he quit UNLV, redshirted this past season and darted for the transfer portal. All over an NIL dispute that was probably Sluka’s fault to begin with.
