His last rom-com Ticket To Paradise, starring opposite Julia Roberts as divorcées, comes to mind. It’s also hard to imagine him competing with 25 year olds, because truthfully the younger generation could use a lesson from Clooney in being a charismatic and compelling romantic lead.
Outside of his age, Clooney didn't share any additional reasoning for his decision to not accept roles in the romance genre.
