Houston’s signature Fourth of July celebration, Freedom Over Texas, is set to return Thursday with six hours of live entertainment, family-friendly festivities, and a fireworks finale expected to draw tens of thousands to the city’s downtown.

The Houston skyline will be lit up on the Fourth of July by thousands of fireworks, but Thursday morning, hidden behind a treeline, a crew of six was hard at work, carefully arranging the explosives at The Water Works in Buffalo Bayou Park.

Freedom Over Texas will be the reason for some closures for the Downtown Houston area. Meanwhile, Houston and Harris County officials will be on high-alert for impaired drivers, and those celebrating in Galveston should be prepared for new parking fees.
