Cade Horton knew pretty quickly something was up. Triple-A Iowa pitching coach Tony Cougoule summoned Horton from his Toledo, Ohio, hotel room to head up to manager Marty Pevey’s room because he had been named the league’s pitcher of the month.

Horton’s first start as a high school quarterback came during Norman High and Norman North’s Crosstown Clash rivalry. Just months after recovering from his surgery, Horton started games in the College World Series.

The Chicago Cubs are summoning Cade Horton to New York from Triple-A Iowa, a league source confirmed to The Athletic, lining up their top pitching prospect to potentially make his major-league debut this weekend against the Mets in a marquee matchup at Citi Field.
